About

Hi, my name is Jeffrey HaoZe Yuan. I am from Princeton, New Jersey, and I study Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Buddhist Studies with an interest in Buddhist philosophy’s intersection with psychology and anthropology.

I research a philosophical yet pragmatic framework that attempts to make sense of human suffering, happiness, problems from the evolutionarily mismatch in modern society, and the meaning of life. To explore these ideas, I often read and think. A year ago, I spent 3 months solo backpacking Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam in attempt to further my understandings.

For my interest in human happiness, I firmly believe human connection is one of, if not the main requisite for a satisfying and happy life; and I believe the best catalyst at achieving human connection is food. In attempt to explore the realm of food and connection, I have cooked for most of my life, am obsessed about Chinese food, and previously opened a pop-up fine dining Sichuanese restaurant in my apartment with a 8-course tasting menu.

All my interests lead back to the same questions. And these questions are what I try to document through the medium of photography and writing. I attempt to capture human meaning and suffering in my pictures and thoughts in hopes of sharing a thought-provoking, yet compassionate, message.
